Archaeological Museum of Kos

The Archaeological Museum of Kos was founded during the Italian occupation in 1935. The museum building is impressive and is characterized by the art Deco architectural style that the Italians left in the Dodecanese. In the museum the visitor will find a rich collection of archaeological findings discovered on the island and covering a long period from the antiquity until the late roman era.
The devastating earthquake in Kos in 1933 and the redesign of Kos town from scratch, showed a lot of elements from ancient history and provided an opportunity to Italian archaeologists for extensive excavations. On the ground floor of the archaeological museum and the patio are the most important sculptures and mosaics
